Essentially deadly: living with toxic elements
نویسنده
چکیده
A ll transition metals are highly toxic to life at low levels, but at the same time some, such as manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel, copper, zinc and molybdenum, are essential micronutrients needed to catalyse key enzymatic reactions. To survive, living organisms have had to evolve mechanisms that either remove such metals from their bodies or detoxify and make use of them metabolically. Many of these mechanisms have been well studied in bacteria, but much less is known about how plants and animals deal with toxic compounds. ...................................................... “Broberg’s research also highlights a point common to many toxic compounds [. . .] which is that their metabolic processing can generate dangerous intermediate by-products” ......................................................

A case of deadly "TEN".
A 50 year old male, presented to us with fever and severe skin and mucous membrane lesions, and was diagnosed to be suffering from a deadly medical emergency: Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis: (TEN) which has been discussed in detail.
متن کاملToxins in Pet Birds
Pet birds, being previously unexposed to the many dangers of our industrial world, are prime candidates for the ingestion/inhalation of toxins. What follows is a highlight of the most common toxins found in our homes. These will include "acute" fast acting fatal toxins and the "chronic" more long term, but still deadly types of toxins. REMEMBER: WHEN CONSIDERING IF A PRODUCT MIGHT BE TOXIC OR N...
متن کاملEvidence of Coal-Fly-Ash Toxic Chemical Geoengineering in the Troposphere: Consequences for Public Health.
The widespread, intentional and increasingly frequent chemical emplacement in the troposphere has gone unidentified and unremarked in the scientific literature for years. The author presents evidence that toxic coal combustion fly ash is the most likely aerosolized particulate sprayed by tanker-jets for geoengineering, weather-modification and climate-modification purposes and describes some of...
متن کاملEvaluation of Potentially Toxic Elements Pollution Indices in Rangeland Northwest of Chadegan city (Isfahan Province)
Abstract Today, the pollution of Rangeland soils by various destructive pollutants has become one of the human-environmental problems. Lacking proper management of organic matter discharge can also increase the concentration of salts, heavy metals, and pathogenic microorganisms. In this study, to investigate and measure the concentration of toxic elements, 128 soil samples of Chadegan region w...
متن کاملCoevolution of Deadly Toxins and Predator Resistance: Self-assessment of Resistance by Garter Snakes Leads to Behavioral Rejection of Toxic Newt Prey
Deadly toxins and resistance to them are an evolutionary enigma. Selection for increased resistance does not occur if predators do not survive encounters with toxic prey. Similarly, deadly toxins are of no advantage to individual prey if it dies delivering the toxins. For individual selection to drive the coevolutionary arms race between resistant predators and lethal prey, the survivorship of ...
